The NOAA BookletChart™ is a product that you can print at home for free.

Posted on May 22, 2013 by Scott Smith

The NOAA BookletChart™ is a product that you can print at home for free. BookletCharts are made to help recreational boaters locate themselves on the water.

The BookletChart is reduced in scale and divided into pages for convenience, but otherwise contains all the information of the full-scale nautical chart. Bar scales are also reduced in scale, but are accurate when used to measure distances in a BookletChart. Excerpts from the United States Coast Pilot are included. Most chart notes are consolidated on a single page for easy reference. Emergency information for the charted area is printed on the back cover.

BookletCharts are updated every week with Notices to Mariners.

DUSTY, STAR OF ‘DISNEY’S PLANES,’ TO APPEAR AT
EAA AIRVENTURE OSHKOSH 2013

Dusty Crophopper will be on display and fly throughout week at Oshkosh

EAA AVIATION CENTER, Oshkosh, Wis. – (May 21, 2013) – The summer release of “Disney’s Planes,” the animated comedy adventure from above the world of the popular 2006 film “Cars,” has the entire aviation community buzzing. “Disney’s Planes” captures all of the thrill and excitement that flying has to offer—plus a lot of heart and humor.

For thousands of air-show attendees, the movie will jump to life with Dusty’s flying performance at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh on July 29-August 4 and other select air shows across the country. Dusty will show off his talents, communicate with the crowd and be accompanied by an exclusive and uplifting Disney musical score during his flying demonstrations on July 29, July 31, and August 2.

In addition, the movie will come to life with a colorful interactive display at Oshkosh that will be loaded with activities. The display, which is a great attraction for children and adults alike, will be located just north of the AirVenture control tower and feature stickers, tattoos, coloring sheets and more featuring all of the characters from “Disney’s Planes.”

The owner and pilot of the aircraft tapped to play the role of Dusty in the air show performances is Texas-based aerial applicator Rusty Lindeman, who customized one of his own Air Tractor AT-301 airplanes to match Dusty’s paint scheme and features. Manufactured in Olney, Texas, Air Tractor aircraft are used for agricultural spraying, seeding and fertilizing, plus forestry protection, fire fighting and more in the U.S. and more than 30 countries around the world. “We’re happy to help bring Dusty to life for the performances and hope that the audience will have fun and learn a bit more about the importance of aerial application in modern agriculture,” said Air Tractor’s Kristin Edwards.

Air Tractor’s founder, Leland Snow, designed, built and flew his own purpose-built crop duster in 1953 and devoted his career to designing bigger and better aircraft for aerial application.

ABOUT THE MOVIE
From above the world of “Cars” comes “Disney’s Planes,” an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar. Featuring a talented roster of voice talent, including Stacy Keach, Brad Garrett, Teri Hatcher, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and more, “Disney’s Planes” takes off in theaters on Aug. 9, 2013. User Fees In New Zealand: $1 Per Touch-And-Go And Rising

Posted on May 20, 2013 by Scott Smith

I hope our government doesn’t get any ideas from this. Reprinted form Avweb.

A trip around the patch at a controlled airport in New Zealand will soon carry a $1 NZD charge under a user fee schedule announced by the Airways Corporation of New Zealand, the “state-owned enterprise” that runs the country’s airspace system. By 2015, however, that same touch and go will cost $3.55 NZD as will transiting controlled airspace and something called a “vicinity landing” that is not defined in the Airways announcement of the fees. Fees for airliners will increase an overall 15.7 percent over the next three years.

The new fee schedule was finalized after six months of consultation with stakeholders and the airlines appeared to make their case especially well. “As a consequence of the high quality of customer submissions, we have revised Airways’ price increase from the 23 percent proposed in February to 15.7 percent over the three years of the pricing period,” the company said in its release. GA, however, is losing a discount system that presumably benefited big users of the system.
