FLY WITH THE AEROSTARS IN A ONE-OF-A-KIND REDBIRD SIMULATOR
AirVenture visitors can fly formation with the Aerostars aerobatic team in Redbird’s custom-built Yak-52 simulator—and maybe the real airplane
Oshkosh, WI (July 24, 2013) – It takes years of practice to earn a spot in the daily airshow over Oshkosh, but this season visitors can experience formation flying for themselves using a Redbird MX2 simulator at AirVenture. This custom-built simulator replicates a Yakolev 52TW, the 450-horsepower, tailwheel version of the fully aerobatic Russian military trainer flown by the Aerostars. Visitors can just try on the Yak for fun, or experience what it’s like to fly formation in the Aerostars flight challenge.
The challenge starts on the runway at Oshkosh in the front seat of the Yak-52 belonging to Aerostars Right Wing Dave Monroe. Just ahead and to the left is the Yak-52 of Lead Pilot Harvey Meek. After takeoff, the visitor must hold position on Harvey’s right wing, while Dave supplies helpful hints as if he was riding along in the back seat. Completing the entire challenge requires holding position through several tight turns and landing back at Whitman Regional airport (Oshkosh).
Sennheiser Aviation has sweetened the deal even more: Everyone completing the challenge in the Yak-52 simulator is automatically entered into a drawing. Two winners, selected at random, will receive top-of-the-line Sennheiser PC350 gaming headsets. One grand-prize winner earns a flight in the real airplane.
In addition to the full-motion experience of the Yak-52 cockpit at the Redbird tent, the challenge can be practiced on any Redbird Jay desktop simulator. These are located at the AOPA tent (#195), the Redbird Flight Simulations tent (#208), or the Aerostars trailer right off Phillips 66 Square.
Team Aerostar will be available in person at the Redbird tent Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 1–2 p.m. The prize drawing will be at the Redbird tent on Saturday, August 3 at 2 p.m.

Scheyden to Debut True Aviator Watch Line at 2013 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

Pilot’s Dream Watch Showcased at Booth #2019

(HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA) – Scheyden – the market leader for precision eyewear and flight crew luggage engineered for aviation and other active pursuits – announces the launch of its True Aviator watch series with the introduction of its first model, Steam Gauge, at 2013 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh (July 29-August 4, Booth #2019).

Designed to serve as a functional piece of equipment for pilots in the cockpit, the True Aviator Steam Gauge (standard price $2,992) is the only timepiece to offer an Aide Memoire Bi-Directional ATIS Bezel as a paperless reminder of the Automated Terminal Information Service (ATIS) recordings. The lower gauge is a multi-feature digital IFR timer that can be used for timing instrument procedures or assisting with timed checklist items. The upper gauge features a Liquid Filled Magnetic Compass that provides awareness on the ground whether traveling to an unfamiliar city or an unimproved backcountry airstrip.

“Pilots immediately know what’s going on here when they see the new Scheyden watch,” says Jeff Herold, company founder and an instrument-rated pilot. “I designed a watch that had components that I knew would be functional to a ‘True Aviator’ at a fraction of the price of other aviation watches on the market. We couldn’t think of a more fitting place than EAA AirVenture, with its passionate aviation crowd, to introduce the first ever ‘True Aviator’ watches.”

Positioned in the watch’s main gauge, protected by the highest-quality Sapphire Crystal is an exceptional Swiss ISA Movement. This digital analog movement also affords wearers the ability to create any second Time Zone, with most pilots likely to choose Zulu (GMT/ UTC) time as their secondary choice. Other features on the True Aviator are: Chronograph, alarm, count down timer, water-resistance, white Super Luminova glowing digits and Global Airport Identifiers.

Each timepiece comes with engraved airport identifiers and a serial number on the watch back. The heavy-duty tri-folding locking wristband showcases a Wing Root design component, delivering levels of both style and performance demanded by pilots and watch enthusiasts alike. Herold adds: “This watch is not only functional it is a conversation piece that will be cherished by its owners.”

A pilot’s dream watch, the Scheyden True Aviator (Steam Gauge model) is available in Brushed Stainless Steel, Stealth Black or Swiss Gold – all ion plated to increase durability. It is worn by Team Scheyden member and star air show pilot Super Dave” Mathieson, who also relies on the Scheyden Fixed Hybrid Jet-A glasses while flying his customized Scheyden MX2 plane. He has christened one of his daring air show maneuvers the “Scheyden Precision Point Roll Pass” because it requires exact timing and a master’s touch to execute properly, aligning with the brand’s “Demand Precision” slogan.

Out of a limited selection of the initial release, one True Aviator will be donated to the EAA AirVenture Gathering of the Eagles Gala on Thursday, August 1. The auction at the annual event raises money to benefit thousands of future aviators.
