ONE Aviation announces Eclipse EA700 “Project Canada”.

Posted on June 2, 2017 by Scott Smith
ONE Aviation announced at the Eclipse Jet Owners and Pilots Association (EJOPA) Annual Convention the selection of the Williams International FJ33-5A-12 turbofan as the engine to power the EA700 “Project Canada”. The “Canada” project was announced last year as an upgrade to the Eclipse 500/550. Relative to the EA550, the “Canada” holds more fuel in a longer wing, with 2-foot extensions on each side; more cabin volume, with a 14-inch fuselage stretch, Garmin G3000 avionics, and more power with the FJ33 engines.

The Williams FJ33-5A-12 is a medium-bypass turbofan capable of producing up to 1900 lbs. of takeoff thrust at its full rating, but will be de-rated for installation on “Canada” to just under 1200 lb. The FJ44/FJ33 family of engines are well known for their excellent thrust-to-weight ratio, fuel efficiency, and low acquisition and operating costs. The FJ33 was originally certified in 2004, with the FJ33-5A variant certified in 2016.
FJ33-5A-12 will allow the aircraft to not only meet, but exceed the performance goals established for the project. “Canada” will now have a Max Cruise speed range in excess of 1470nm, with NBAA 100-nm reserves and will be able to climb direct to its maximum operating altitude of 43,000 ft., even on hot days. Takeoff performance is also significantly improved enabling it to depart high altitude airports on hot days without offloading fuel or payload.
“I am very pleased that ONE Aviation has chosen our FJ33-5 to power their exciting new offering,” said Gregg Williams, Chairman, President & CEO of Williams International. I’m also proud of our team for developing and certifying an engine that is making jet travel more affordable.”
“I look forward to working with Williams and to all the possibilities the FJ33 brings to the “Canada” project” said Alan Klapmeier, CEO of ONE Aviation. “The additional power and efficiency of the Williams engines will once again change our customers view of personal jet performance.”

SPACE NIGHT, MOVING THE SHUTTLE, JETMAN AND MILITARY HEROES PART OF EAA AIRVENTURE EVENING PROGRAMS

Canadian astronaut who became YouTube sensation this year among presenters

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. — (June 27, 2013) — Chris Hadfield, the Canadian astronaut who became a YouTube sensationearlier this year with his “Space Oddity” music video from the International Space Station, will be among the “Space Night” presenters on Tuesday evening, July 30, during the evening programs at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2013.

“Space Night” is one highlight of a week of evening programs at EAA’s Theater in the Woods, which features aviation and other personalities in programming specifically aimed at aviation enthusiasts. The evening programs are included with AirVenture admission and are sponsored by Mars Snack Foods.

The July 30 “Space Night” presentation will feature Hadfield – whose YouTube video posted in May 2013 has surpassed 16 million views worldwide – along with former Space Shuttle Commanders Charlie Precourtand Kent Rominger(now with aerospace company ATK) to talk about the end of the Space Shuttle program and the future of manned space travel.

“EAA members and AirVenture attendees have always been eager to hear in-depth about famous and innovative achievements during our evening programs at Theater in the Woods,” said Jim DiMatteo, EAA’s vice president of AirVenture features and attractions. “This year’s lineup is a tremendous mix of aviation history, accomplishments, and what’s ahead in the future.”

Other confirmed evening programs at Theater in the Woods include:

Wednesday, July 31 – “Bringing the Space Shuttle West: An Evening with David Knight”: Knight was a key figure on the team that brought the Space Shuttle Endeavor from Florida to the California Science Center in Los Angeles. He also led the 150-person film crew the chronicled the most complex move of an object through an urban area in history. His presentation includes unreleased film footage from Endeavor’s last mission and the journey to her new home.

Thursday, Aug. 1 – Yves “Jetman” Rossy: Learn about the development of Rossy’s unique flight suit that has allowed him to fly over mountains, in formation with fighter jets, and through the Grand Canyon.  Rossy’s presentation provides more background to the multiple flights he is making during EAA AirVenture.

Friday, Aug. 2 – “American Warriors”: This special program is a fitting ending to a full day of AirVenture’ “Salute to Veterans” activities that honors veterans and current military members. The special guests will include top-level military honorees and pilots.

BIRD? PLANE? IT’S JETMAN AT EAA AIRVENTURE 2013!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BIRD? PLANE? IT’S JETMAN AT EAA AIRVENTURE 2013!

First public U.S. flights will be in Oshkosh

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. — (May 2, 2013) — Yves “Jetman” Rossy, the world’s first jet-powered man, will make his first public U.S. flights this summer at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, showcasing the cutting edge of human flight at The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration on July 29-August 4.

The U.S. flights are supported by Jetman’s sponsor, the luxury Swiss watch manufacturer Breitling. Complete details on the AirVenture flight schedule will be announced as it is finalized. Along with the appearance at Oshkosh, Jetman will fly in the U.S. at the Reno Air Races in September.

“We have eagerly followed and supported Jetman’s progress and success for several years,” said Jim DiMatteo, EAA’s vice president of AirVenture features and attractions. “He has already been featured as our cover story in EAA Sport Aviation magazine (March 2011), so to welcome him here this summer is an exciting first and part of the unique flying world you’ll see only at Oshkosh.”

The American tour follows Jetman’s successful private flight over the Grand Canyon in 2011 and numerous demonstrations in Europe. EAA assisted Rossy with the paperwork to make the U.S. flights possible.

“I am excited to share my project with fellow enthusiasts and be a part of aviation’s biggest gathering in the world,” Rossy said from his home in Switzerland. “EAA helped me secure the experimental exhibition special airworthiness certificate for my jetwing. It will be a privilege to attend Oshkosh and demonstrate how experimental projects can push forward the boundaries of flight.”

Using a carbon-Kevlar jetwing with four engines, each of which capable of a 22-kilogram thrust, the Swiss aviator is able to propel himself through the sky at upward of 150 mph, controlled by a simple throttle in his hand. The rest of the controls are left to the human fuselage – Rossy himself – who simply uses his shoulders, body, and legs to steer, pitch, and descend. This forward-thinking technology has allowed Rossy to achieve many outstanding feats since 2008, including soaring above Rio de Janeiro, completing aerobatics from the Breitling Orbiter balloon, crossing the English Channel and flying in formation with various Breitling jets, warbirds and passenger aircraft.

For Breitling, a watch brand synonymous with aviation, both the Oshkosh and Reno events are a natural fit to celebrate the past, present, and future world of flight. The watch manufacturer joined Jetman as his main sponsor in 2010 and allowed him to achieve many aviation firsts.

“Breitling is honored to bring Jetman back to the United States,” said Breitling U.S.A. President Thierry Prissert. “His aerobatic feats exemplify the spirit of aviation, and his never-ending dedication to air exploration enhances each event in which he performs. Jetman in flight is truly incredible and something everyone should see for themselves.”

Jetman’s flights will be part of AirVenture’s air shows during the week. EAA AirVenture air shows are presented by Rockwell Collins.
