5 things to remember in an RG aircraft

Posted on October 16, 2024 by Scott Smith

Five things to remember when flying a retractable gear aircraft (or any aircraft really).

  1. USE A CHECK LIST! It seems like a no brainer, but sometimes we think we have it all memorized because we have done it so often. Simple things can change the routine and throw you off.
  2. Read the checklist out loud. Surprisingly, you can read the checklist and never touch the gear lever or look at the lights. Reading out loud might seem silly, but it often helps your “co-pilot” crosscheck what you are doing. Even if they are not a pilot, they can make you aware.
  3. Physically put your hand on, or touch items as you read the check list.
  4. Never assume you won’t forget.
  5. Don’t rush the process. Even if you are being pressured in the pattern because of a faster aircraft, follow the routine.

Finding a Hangar is getting more difficult.

Posted on October 4, 2024 by Scott Smith

The cost to hangar your aircraft hit a new weird high today!

We heard from a customer today about the difficulty in getting a hangar in the their local area.  After looking around, the owner found it cheaper to hangar the plane in a neighboring state, besides there were waiting lists to get a hangar in the local area.
Who would have thought it is cheaper to hop an airline to fly to where the customer can rent hangar space and do some leisure flying for the weekend than it was to tie the aircraft out on the customer’s local field.

Your ego and insurance

Posted on August 13, 2024 by Scott Smith

One of my recent articles in the Cessna and Piper Owners Magazines. If you are a member you can read it there.

“Is your ego buying aircraft you can’t get insured?”

Maybe it is not ego, but our expectations.
