FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DRONE LIGHT SHOW TO ILLUMINATE NIGHT SKY AT EAA AIRVENTURE OSHKOSH 2018

Up to 100 drones in simultaneous flight in night air shows on July 25 and 28

DRONE LIGHT SHOW – EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (July 5, 2018) — For the first time in North America, a drone light show will be part of an air show when EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018 presents up to 100 lighted drones in flight during night air shows on July 25 and 28, creating another “Only at Oshkosh” experience.

The 66th annual Experimental Aircraft Association fly-in convention is July 23-29 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The night air shows have become a favorite of the weeklong event, featuring a new perspective on the precise flying skills displayed by aerobatic pilots.

The EAA AirVenture demonstrations will mark the first time a lighted drone display is a scheduled part of a North American air show performance. Great Lakes Drone Company, based in Watervliet, Michigan, will be flying their drones and is one of just two U.S. companies authorized by the FAA for such displays.

“EAA and Great Lakes Drone Company worked closely with the FAA to make this pioneering and innovative event possible,” said Dave Chaimson, EAA’s vice president of marketing and business development. “What makes this event especially memorable are the intricate maneuvers that are capable by up to 100 synchronized drones, highlighting the possibilities of safe and responsible drone flying. People come to AirVenture to see aerial excitement not seen anywhere else, and these performances certainly continue that tradition.”

Great Lakes Drone Company has done numerous drones shows as stand-alone highlights at events, but this is the first as part of an air show performance. During AirVenture, the LED-equipped drones will perform a 10-minute “The History of Flight” show complete with musical accompaniment.

“When one thinks of THE place where flying innovation and excitement occur, Oshkosh instantly comes to mind,” said Matt Quinn, president of Great Lakes Drone Company. “That’s why we are so excited about this opportunity to be part of the famed night air shows and perform in front of the tens of thousands of aviation enthusiasts on the flightline – a real ‘first’ for the air show community.”

The EAA AirVenture Oshkosh night air shows begin at 8 p.m. on July 25 and July 28, and are included with AirVenture admission. Announced schedules are subject to change based on weather or operational conditions.

EAA AIRVENTURE OSHKOSH 2018 NOTAM NOW AVAILABLE FOR PILOTS FLYING TO OSHKOSH

Oshkosh air traffic procedures are required reading for all aviators flying to AirVenture

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (April 30, 2018) — The Federal Aviation Administration has released the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018 Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), featuring arrival and departure procedures for EAA’s 66th annual fly-in convention July 23-29 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

The NOTAM, which is in effect from 6 a.m. CDT on Friday, July 20, until noon CDT on July 30, outlines procedures for the many types of aircraft that fly to Oshkosh for the event, as well as aircraft that land at nearby airports.

The NOTAM was designed by the FAA to assist pilots in their EAA AirVenture flight planning. This year’s NOTAM cover features aviation fans watching the air show at Oshkosh.

While the overall procedure is generally similar to past years, there are a number of changes compared to the 2017 version. It is essential that pilots flying to Oshkosh thoroughly read the 2018 NOTAM for the most updated information. Some of those changes include:

  • Oshkosh Taxiway Bravo has been realigned, with resulting changes to aircraft parking and camping areas
  • Oshkosh Ground Control frequency has been changed to 132.3
  • Descriptions of Seaplane Base procedures and Transient Helicopter area have been updated
  • Madison Approach Control frequencies and airspace boundary altitudes have changed
  • Two southern Wisconsin VORs have been decommissioned
  • IFR routings and the list of airports requiring IFR reservations has been updated

Pilots can download a digital version of the NOTAM at www.EAA.org/NOTAM, or order a free printed copy via that website or by calling EAA Membership Services at 800-564-6322.

To further assist pilots flying to Oshkosh, the National Transportation Safety Board has an informative safety bulletin about arriving to a major fly-in event.

WOMEN AVIATORS GATHER FOR WOMENVENTURE AT EAA AIRVENTURE OSHKOSH 2018

Activities begin on July 23, major highlights on July 25

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (April 26, 2018) — For the 11th straight year, the opportunity for women who love aviation to build camaraderie and open doors to mentorship and participation comes to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018, as WomenVenture activities will take place during the week.

The 66th annual Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) fly-in convention will be held July 23-29 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. WomenVenture is presented by The Boeing Company, with additional support from Glasair Aviation, Women in Aviation International, Ninety-Nines Inc., Endeavor Air, Fly Girl LLC, and L3 Aviation Products.

Since 2008, WomenVenture has offered the opportunity to bring together female aviators from throughout the flying community. The activities are designed to encourage participation by women in aviation, as only six percent of all pilots in the U.S. are female.

“WomenVenture is a tremendous experience for women, particularly as it comes during The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration at Oshkosh,” said Kelly Nelson, a pilot and executive editor for EAA publications. “These activities can be a springboard to motivate other women to get involved in aviation, either for fun or as a future career, as we’ll present activities that motivate, inform, and inspire.”

The schedule includes:

  • Monday, July 23, 5:30 p.m. – The WomenVenture social, presented by Endeavor Air. This kickoff to the 11th annual WomenVenture schedule invites all women to meet and connect in a fun atmosphere of an ice cream social. Preregistration online at EAA.org/WomenVenture is appreciated.
  • Tuesday, July 24, 6 p.m. – Aviation Appreciation dinner at the EAA Nature Center, sponsored by The Ninety-Nines. Advance tickets will be available beginning May 7 at www.99oshkoshdinner.com.
  • Wednesday, July 25, 7:30 a.m. – Women in Aviation International’s Connect Breakfast at the Paul H. Poberezny Conference Center tent. Tickets are available at www.wai.org.
  • Wednesday, July 25, 11 a.m. – Annual WomenVenture group photo on AirVenture’s showcase Boeing Plaza.
  • Wednesday, July 26, 11:30 a.m. – The WomenVenture Power Lunch at Theater in the Woods. Tickets are $5 each and pre-registration for this lunch is required at EAA.org/WomenVenture. This year’s speaker is Heather Penney, Senior Resident Fellow at the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies, who is also well-known for her service as an D.C. Air National Guard F-16 pilot on 9/11.

As in past years, a limited-edition WomenVenture T-shirt is available to all women who participate (while supplies last). Those T-shirts can be obtained at the AirVenture Welcome Center on the AirVenture grounds, as well as the Women in Aviation Internal and 99s exhibits, beginning on Monday, July 23. Women are encouraged to wear the T-shirt for the July 25 group photos to show the collective strength of women in the flight community.

In addition, women are invited to the Welcome Center to sign the WomenVenture logbook any day during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018.
