EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (July 13, 2023) — The UAS4STEM competition for high school students is back for the third year at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023. The Academy of Model Aeronautics event is for groups of students, from age 11 to graduating high school seniors, who build an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) and compete against other teams to complete a specific mission through different obstacles. This year’s competition features two divisions, Beginner and Advanced.

“As the competition has evolved, we want to continue to challenge the competitors who return year after year,” said Kyle Jaracz, AMA’s Education Director. “The Advanced Division will have teams build on skills from last year’s competition.”

Teams competing in the Beginner class will focus on the fundamentals of drone programming and flying, while Advanced teams will be tasked with developing a mechanism to pick up and transport items to different locations.

Teams that are competing at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023 include:

• Beginner Division
o The Corntographers (Yorktown Heights, NY)
o The Flying Nuggets (Decatur, GA)
o Greenville Composite Squadron (Greeneville, TN)
o Hardin Valley Academy AeroHAWKS (Knoxville, TN)
o Redstone Composite Squadron (Huntsville, AL)
o St. Mary’s CAP (Hollywood, MD)

• Advanced Division

The competition will take place on July 24-26 near the southwest corner of Camp Scholler. The winning teams will be recognized prior to Wednesday’s night air show. Teams in first, second and third place of both divisions will receive Skydio products and scholarship awards funded by the AMA Foundation and Skydio.

NASA Pavilion, daily forums, evening programs are part of weeklong participation

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (June 22, 2023) — America’s legacy and future on the moon, unique aircraft, advanced aviation technologies, and a variety of presentations are among NASA’s highlights coming to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023 on July 24-30 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

NASA’s activities will be centered at its pavilion in Aviation Gateway Park, just northwest of the FAA control tower on the AirVenture grounds. Other exhibits and programs will be showcased throughout the week at various other locations as well.

Among the other NASA highlights at EAA AirVenture 2023 are:

  • Monday, July 24, 8 p.m., Theater in the Woods: “NASA – The Next Bold Step” looks at the Apollo and Artemis programs, from the first steps on the moon to the next steps on the moon. Hosted by former space shuttle commander Charlie Precourt, the program will include NASA Associate Administrator Bob Cabana, Apollo 16 astronaut Charlie Duke plus Gerry Griffin and Rick Weiss from the Apollo program, as well as Dr. John Blevins, Alex Kanelakos, and Dr. Ryan Watkins from the Artemis program.
  • Tuesday, July 25, 2:30 p.m., Forum Pavilion 7: “Artemis Audience Astronauts” will cover mission and science objectives, prelaunch preparation, crew training, and human research objectives the crew will likely complete. Experts in lunar and Mars mission planning and spacecraft development will cover what crews can expect while living and working on and around the moon, and how long-duration Artemis missions will function as partial analogs for human missions to Mars.
  • Monday-Wednesday, July 24-26, Boeing Plaza: NASA Super Guppy parked on Boeing Plaza. This unique cargo airplane carries large spaceship parts from location to location. The airplane will also carry a full-size test article of the Orion space capsule.

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh commemorates 30 years of women flying combat aircraft during EAA WomenVenture on July 26

Special programming, exhibits, and more included throughout week

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (June 9, 2023) — Celebrating women advancing in aviation, including 30 years of flying active-duty combat aircraft, will be part of EAA WomenVenture on July 26 during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. The 70th edition of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s fly-in convention is July 24-30 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

EAA WomenVenture has become an annual gathering point for women involved in aviation, from the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of World War II to teenagers involved in EAA’s GirlVenture day camp that week. The programs are design to encourage and inspire women who want to pursue their dreams of flight.

“What we’ve seen over the 15-plus years of EAA WomenVenture is that it has become an unforgettable annual reunion of all women engaged in aviation,” said Margaret Viola, an EAA-member pilot who is the volunteer chair of the event. “We are inspired by those who came before us and, in turn, are enthused to share the world of flight with others who want to become part of it. It’s a celebration that happens in a unique way at Oshkosh.”

Events will be held all week, with an emphasis on July 26 activities, including commemoration of 30 years of women flying combat missions in the U.S. military. Programs during the week include:

  • All week: EAA WomenVenture Center, located at Aviation Gateway Park, features exhibitors and events that support women in aviation.
  • Monday, July 24: Ice Cream Social, sponsored by Endeavor Air (SOLD OUT)
  • Wednesday, July 26:
    • Annual WomenVenture group photo, 11 a.m., Boeing Plaza
    • Power Lunch, Theater in the Woods (SOLD OUT), with keynote speaker Michelle “Mace” Curran, author and former U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds pilot, presenting Upside Down Dreams.
    • Evening program, Theater in the Woods, 6:30 p.m., with pioneering women military pilots Jeannie Leavitt, Sharon Preszler, and Martha McSally, plus more women pilots who have served in the U.S. armed forces.
  • Thursday, July 27: Female aviation authors featured all day at EAA WomenVenture Center.
  • July 26-29: Evening activities hosted by exhibitors on WomenVenture Center patio.

More information is available at EAA.org/WomenVenture, including how to register for this year’s free commemorative WomenVenture T-shirt, designed by EAA member Leticia Williamson.

EAA WomenVenture is present by The Boeing Company, with additional support from Endeavor Air, General Aviation Manufacturers Association, The Ninety-Nines, Piedmont Airlines, United Airlines, University of North Dakota Aerospace, U.S. Air Force, and Women in Aviation International.
