Flying Musicians 2022 Solo Scholarship Recipient

May 10, 2022, Fort Worth, TX:  The Flying Musicians Association (FMA) is proud to announce the selection of our fifteenth overall scholarship recipient of the FMA Solo program: Jovencia (Jovie) Webbeking from Washington state.

We received thirty-seven outstanding nominees from all across the United States and Canada. The FMA board had to choose from 6 finalists. They were overwhelmed with the level of talent and passion. “As typical all six are well qualified and talented. The decision is not easy.” – Dr. Ian Blair Fries “Again, terribly hard choices. Each kid, every one of them, would be a good candidate.” – Tim Kern, MBA, CAM “Wow, all worthy finalists, what a hard choice!” – Louise Vickerman, principal harpist Utah Symphony. “If only we had the resources to fund more scholarships, I would have been delighted to select all six finalists!” – Prof. H. Jovie will make an excellent pilot as she has proven that hard work, persistence, dedication, and passion works. She is an outstanding Flutist. Her approach to learning to fly will guarantee success. “In the fall, I will attend Vanderbilt university where I plan to major in mechanical engineering and minor in music performance while still managing to get in flight hours.” Read more at FlyingMusicians.org.

The 2023 FMA Solo program kicks off this fall. This scholarship is unique, bringing an aspiring music student from zero time to solo. FMA covers roughly fifteen hours of dual instruction, online ground school, training materials, and additional products from sponsors. FMA envisioned and instituted this scholarship program because it recognizes the parallel skills involved in flying and performing music and wants to promote both areas of growth in our inspired and dedicated future leaders.

Early commitments include U.S. Air Force 75th anniversary aircraft

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (May 13, 2022) — A long list of current military aircraft are among the early commitments to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022, including many arriving to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force this year. The 69th edition of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s fly-in convention is July 25-31 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

“Displays and aerial performances of current military aircraft are always among the most popular parts of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh each year, for aviation enthusiasts and the public,” said Rick Larsen, EAA’s vice president of communities and member programs, who coordinates AirVenture features and attractions. “This is just the start, as we expect to list of military aircraft to grow as we approach AirVenture’s opening day, especially in support of the Air Force’s 75th anniversary in 2022.”

The current military aircraft listed, from the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army, are those on ground display, with some performing during the daily air shows as well. They include:

  • C-5 Galaxy
  • C-17 Globemaster III
  • F-16 Fighting Falcon
  • KC-46 Pegasus
  • HH-60 Pavehawk
  • AH-64 Apache
  • UH-60 Blackhawk
  • MH-47 Chinook
  • AH-6 Little Bird
  • T-38 Talon

Many more military aircraft, for both ground display and aerial demonstrations, are expected to be added to this list in the coming weeks, with announcements coming as confirmations are finalized.

Historic homebuilt aircraft anniversaries part of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022 activities

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (April 14, 2022) — A number of iconic homebuilt aircraft designs will be celebrating notable anniversaries this year at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, which annually brings together the world’s largest gathering of amateur-built aircraft. The 69th edition of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s fly-in convention is July 25-31 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

“Many of our members build their own airplanes from kits or sets of plans and each year, more than 1,000 of these amateur-built aircraft are among the 10,000-plus aircraft that arrive here for AirVenture,” said Charlie Becker, EAA’s homebuilt community manager. “In 2022, several popular designs are celebrating their anniversaries, and we invite all owners of those aircraft to come to Oshkosh to help commemorate the occasion.”

Anniversary aircraft owners are encouraged to pre-register so they can receive updates on special events, parking, and other activities connected to their airplane type. Among the aircraft designs reaching important anniversaries in 2022 are:

  • Dyke Delta 60th anniversary – One of the most unusual homebuilt aircraft designs, including the rare delta wing
  • Fly Baby 60th anniversary – An ultra-economical, single seat design with a goal of flying fun
  • Acro Sport 50th anniversary – A fully aerobatic biplane designed by EAA founder Paul Poberezny
  • KR-1 50th anniversary – A single-seat design that often serves as an airframe for auto-conversion engines
  • VariViggen 50th anniversary – One of Burt Rutan’s first homebuilt designs that is still a unique profile at any airport
  • Van’s RV 50th anniversary – The world’s most popular aircraft kit, with more than 11,000 completed
